WI vs SA 1st T20I: Pooran unleashes his brutal attack, powers West Indies to 7-wicket win

In what turned out to be an exciting start to the three-match T20I series, West Indies thumped South Africa by seven wickets in the first game on Saturday at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad, carrying off a successful chase, with top-order unleashing their attack on South African bowlers. The win has given West Indies an early 1-0 lead in the series, setting a strong tone for the remaining matches.
South Africa, having been put to bat, set a target of (174/7) in (20) overs, with Tristan Stubbs and Patrick Kruger playing key roles, scoring (76) and (44) respectively amid disappointment from their top-order batters. Yet, the target seemed achievable and was eventually subdued by the West Indies' robust performance.
South Africa’s innings got off to a difficult start, with their top-order batsmen putting up a harrowing show, with Ryan Rickelton (4), Reeza Hendricks (4) and skipper Aiden Markram (14) losing their wickets early on. However, key contributions from Tristan Stubbs and Patrick Kruger guided proteas to a fighting total.
In response, West Indies showcased their formidable batting prowess. Their chase was anchored by an impressive knock from their opening batsmen Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope smoking (40) and (51) respectively. Down the order, it was mighty Nicholas Pooran who unleashed his frightening attack plundering (65 off 26), involving seven sixes and two fours.
