“I don't really feel any pain or anything”: Steve Smith on his recovery ahead of 2nd Test vs West Indies

Australia’s star batter Steve Smith, who missed the first Test against West Indies due to a compound dislocation of his right little finger, is likely to make his return to the side in the second Test. He will replace Josh Inglis in the Australian lineup for the second Test, which starts on Thursday in Grenada. Speaking on his recovery, Smith said he hasn’t felt any pain and everything is feeling good.

"For me, it'll just feel like training as normal, I think," Smith told the reporters.

"I don't really feel any pain or anything. It’s all feeling good. Just getting used to the splint on and the slight limited movement with the tape and splint. I mean, it's not too bad; I've got a lot of movement there now, so that feels good. Hitting the ball felt completely fine."

"So, it'll be just training as normal and then probably fielding some balls in front of the wicket, which will probably be the strangest thing for me – I don't think I've ever done that in a Test match. Fielding at either mid-on, mid-off or fine leg, a bit different to standing at second or first slip, so I think that's probably going to be the biggest difference,” Smith added.

Smith suffered the injury during the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s earlier this month, ruling him out of the first Test against West Indies. Meanwhile, Australia won the first Test against West Indies by 159 runs.
